The long stretch of grassy meadow became Brigette's lair as she stared into the vast, cloudless sky. This is her land of make-believe. Millions of stars stared back at her as though they were calculating each other's thoughts. She is a hopeful child; placing her dreams in each star that she fancies; usually the ones twinkling the brightest from the pack. The cold gust of wind kissed her face as her eyes, filled with faith gleamed with such intensity of courage only brought about by innocence and naivete. A small town girl who believes that these stellar bodies keeps her wishes and makes them come true.
She grew up fast and before she knew it, she was setting off for the big city. She studied very well, chasing her dreams that she knew were only a reach away. Getting at ease with the urban living but still remembering her rural life where she thought of her ambitions and placed them in the stars who are now making them into reality. Unaware of the monsters of the real world, she went off steadily, with a hopeful heart.
Her pulse quickened. Her breathing was cut short to rapid breaths. There was no mistaking this feeling, she thought. She was in love. He was good-looking, she was ordinary. He was wealthy, she was middle class. He was quite popular for being a brainless jock and she was a hardworking straight-A student.
He wanted her and now he got her. He was allured to her good-girl aura. A nice, serious girl is always a challenge to cocky guys like him. He would drop her as soon as he got what he wanted. Trusting too much, Brigette never had a single, bad thought about him. He was one of his dreams now in pure flesh. Thanks to the stars, she thought.
Her world crumbled. Dream gone in a hasty second. She gave everything up for the guy she loved only to have her heart torn and strewn up into pieces. A monster snatched her dream away from the safety of her star's grasp. Never returning it back and leaving an empty hole in its cradle.
Time passed and she went back to her hometown a transformed woman. She visited her land of make-believe where she once weaved her web of dreams. The same stretch of meadow and clean air greeted her as she laid down in the grass but as she tilted her head into the sky, clouds loomed overhead. A roll of mist covered up the star-filled sky and not a faint twinkle can be seen. Her cradle of dreams was invisible to her eyes and tears fell as she uttered helplessly above, "I AM YOU."
